Global Care

In response to the enormous physical and spiritual needs encountered in Australia and overseas, COC launched Global Care in 1996. As a missions, aid and development organization, Global Care is committed to helping the distressed and disadvantaged. It does it through community assistance projects and providing aid relief in areas of need. Click here  for examples of the work Global Care has done, particularly in response to the Kinglake bushfires in Victoria.

In the Adelaide Hills, the Mt. Barker Council has been using Global Care since 1998 as a volunteer group to carry out yard clean-ups, minor home maintenance, visitation and the provision of food parcels for people who are eligible for their Home Assist program.

In 2009, COC Adelaide Hills sent a team of volunteers to Kinglake, Victoria to assist with the relief work after the bushfires. The team were able to assist in a variety of ways eg. firewood splitting & delivery, installing decking besides caravans and temporary shelters, serving in the cafe and general handyman work.

We are continuing to explore ways to make a real difference to people’s lives in our community. One initiative that we are working on with a group of other local churches is to establish a “Hills Churches Care Network”. This will be a collaborative approach to providing support and services to people in need in our community.
